Each player can fly different types of ships with various weapons and capabilities. After nearly 20 years Netrek is still alive, still free, still online, and still fun. If you can't find a server with someone on it, then it is the perfect time to become familiar with the controls and learn how to fly your ship. Also if you are on a server alone, you can hit the '*' key to launch a practice robot.
